About the Project
This exciting, new, youth-led project will see young people design and programme a meanwhile-use space in Cygnet Square, Thamesmead. Working with Beyond The Box CIC, Peabody, and Karakusevic Carson Architects, the project will create a vibrant hub for creativity, learning, and community connection..
Through hands-on workshops, mentoring, and collaborative working, you will develop design ideas for the space and curate a programme of events and activities that connect with your peers and wider community.
This is a chance to gain real-life skills in design, placemaking, and event programming, while helping shape a new community landmark in Thamesmead.
The Role: Youth Makers Assembly Member
We are recruiting six Youth Makers Assembly Members (aged 16–25) to co-design and co-programme the Made in Thamesmead space.
Working in collaboration with Beyond the Box, Peabody, Karakusevic Carson Architects, Turkington Martin, Price & Myers and Beyond Carbon, you’ll:
- Learn new design and creative skills through workshops and training ● Take part in co-design sessions to shape the look, feel, and function of the meanwhile-use space
- Develop ideas for a youth-led programme of events and activities
- Connect with your peers to gather insight and share ideas
- Help deliver public events and activities in Thamesmead
- Gain experience in teamwork, project planning, and community engagement
This role is ideal for young people interested in creativity, design, community, or events — no previous experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to take part.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from young people who are:
- Aged 16–25 and living in Thamesmead as a priority. We are also accepting applications from candidates living in Greenwich, Bexley or Woolwich.

- Keen to share ideas and collaborate with others
- Passionate about improving your community and connecting with peers
- Reliable, creative, and enthusiastic
Support & Structure
You will be supported by:
- The Beyond The Box team, providing training, mentoring, and project oversight
- Peabody and Karakusevic Carson Architects, offering guidance in design and
placemaking
- A network of local partners and community organisations
All workshops, planning sessions, and events are paid and form part of your role.
